We turn on the TV and see images of fear and anger that fan the politics of division.

On Saturday, September 19th from 12pm-5pm, over 500 Black Boston-area undergraduate and graduate students will gather at MIT’s Johnson Athletic Center for the 7th annual HollaDay. HollaDay, hosted by the Boston Black Student Network, Inc. (BBSN), is a networking extravaganza that provides an arena for area Black college students to connect and realize the professional, community, and political opportunities in the Boston area.

1,000 Men and Women to “Walk for Change” in Support of Sexual Assault Awareness on April 5th

Cambridge, MA - The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is expecting 1,000 men and women to participate in its 4th Annual Walk for Change on Sunday, April 5. Survivors, friends, families, community members and local agencies will walk to increase community awareness and involvement in preventing sexual violence and to raise much-needed funds for BARCC. The goal for the 2009 Walk is $100,000.

As usual it will be a point for reflection and platform for organizing on many fronts - from Gaza to the Amazon, from DC to Soweto, from the deserts of Rajasthan to the Bolivian highlands, from Athenian streets through Paris' "banlieues" to Oakland on the Pacific coast ... the Forum will embrace a diversity of oppositional forces.

March 2008 ushered in the sixth year of war and occupation "without end" on Iraq. In an act of arrogance and impunity, Congress in a bipartisan vote approved another $162 billion in funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stepped up threats against Iran and the increased likelihood of a U.S. troop "surge" into Afghanistan point to an imperative for action and an independent voice from the anti-war movement.

A glance at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which turns 60 this year, suggests that life could be better for Americans. Its thirty articles ensure rights denied to many Americans: the right to work, freedom from arbitrary interference with privacy, protection of child welfare, access to higher education on the basis of merit, and equality. Might all Americans be more free if the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were also United States law?

On Sunday, June 29th, Dave Goodman of "RADIO with a VIEW" spoke with Janet Gillespie, Community Change Director of Programming about the local event, institutional racism, and prospects for alliances among various progressive social movements.

Nader to Rally Support in Massachusetts This Friday

Ralph Nader will be speaking in Cambridge Friday evening to rally support for his latest independent, anti-corporate, anti-war presidential election campaign. 
 
While Barack Obama has galvanized widespread support for his message of change, Nader asserts the presumptive Democratic Party nominee will not be able to bring the sort of change that ordinary Americans need. According to Nader, Obama is “really a corporate Democrat” pointing to his enormous financial backing from Wall Street firms and big business.
